So, how do they actually make money?
For only 400 rubles, you can uncover the secrets of this fascinating process at the St Petersburg Mint.
In 2024, the Mint opened a new Museum and Production Complex — located right inside the working factory.

Here, visitors can see a real section of the Mint’s operating workshop.

During the tour, you’ll learn about the main stages of the technological process and see:

  • A 3D modeling specialist’s workstation
  • An automated engraving machine
  • A hand engraver’s workstation
  • Manual tool polishing
  • Coin striking in both manual and automatic modes
  • Automatic minting of non-ferrous metal items
  • A blank weighing line
  • Tumble finishing
  • UV printing of colored images

The Museum and Production Complex was opened in the specially restored northern tower of the Mint building and in the adjoining part of the operating workshop.
In the 19th century, this tower housed a gold smelting workshop, while the neighboring rooms were used for coin minting.

Today, a mid-20th-century coining press stands here — a machine that produced several tens of millions of coins over its fifty years of operation.
